Few organisms live deep below the surface in the oceanic zone. Except in hydrothermal vent regions, most deep water organisms are seavengers and decomposers that depend on the constant downward flow of dead organisms and nutrients. Many types of deep-sea predators, such as the angler fish, have been discovered. scientists are also finding new species living on the floor of the ocean, even at depths of 5 miles(8 kilometers).
